i already mentioned this, but now i have a picture. thom's hair and eyes are changing colors. his eyes are getting yellow right around his pupils and his hair is coming in blonde. it's crazy - the inch of hair that is closest to his scalp is blonde, but further down the shaft is brown. he is turning into a little skunk. no, actually it's reading almost auburn in color. evidence:
also this past week, thom had his first taste of solid foods. we fed him carrots! here's how that went:
actually, i've given him large chunks of non-swallowable foods for him to gnaw on. like a big leaf of cabbage, or a large carrot. he has really liked chewing on those but we're opening a whole new door with solid foods!
and another big accomplishment: thom can sit up now, too! he's been practicing in his bumbo but now he can sit up on his own for a few minutes now. i'm a little apprehensive cuz we have only hardwood floors in our home. so mostly i sit by him to catch him so he doesn't bonk his head when he falls. but yeah, he's getting pretty good at balancing.
finally... we took a family trip to surfside yesterday. the weather was cloudy and a little cold so we didn't venture far into the water (wading is fine for us, thanks!) but thom was fascinated by the waves and the gulls. we'll have to go back when the weather is warmer and do some actual surfing and sand-building!
