excited for tomorrow

tomorrow is the day. we get our 20 week ultrasound and we'll *hopefully* be able to see if i'm growing a baby girl or a boy. i've been dreaming about the ultrasound for about a week now. i had a strange dream the other night where we had the ultrasound and the technician said she was measuring "small for dates" but they couldn't tell what was wrong so we'd have to come back for another, more diagnostic ultrasound. i do worry about that - if i'm the "right" size for my pregnancy. sometimes i feel too small, sometimes i feel too big.

my guess as to the outcome for tomorrow? girl. why, you ask? well just because i think so. it feels weird thinking about the baby as a boy. all chris' and my dreams are about baby girls. chris even had a dream where she was born and we named her madeleine eve savage. so if we have a girl we've already got a cute name picked out.

if it is a boy, i will probably regret this post. and we'll have to actually look at boy's names. but we'll see in about 24 hours. yep, 2 pm tomorrow. i'm holding my breath. :)

18 weeks, with the appetite of a truck-driver

i've been thinking about writing this post since i've been pregnant (18 weeks now). it is a record of all the things that i have loved to eat (call them cravings or not) since i've been pregnant, in order of appearance:

-first i would eat only fresh produce and dairy. nothing else sounded even remotely edible (besides, of course, those lovely saltine crackers). tomatoes were my favorite and i ate them like apples. honestly, like one or two a day. deeeelicious.

-towards the end of my first trimester when food actually started smelling and sounding ok to eat, i craved tater tots. ok, not so healthy but i only gave in a few times.
-then i ate spaghetti and meatballs about once or twice a day for a little over a week at the beginning of my second trimester. funny thing...chris suggested meatballs with our pasta a few nights ago and i almost gagged. overkill! i don't know if i'll be able to enjoy meatballs again for a long, long time.

-also, sweet, gummy candy. i've been good up to this point about generally avoiding sweets. but i had some starbursts the other night and those reminded me how much i love haribo gummi bears, and i went on a little sugar-spree last week. hopefully this desire has passed. i'm such a sucker for sugar.

-chips and salsa!! mmm...sounds good, doesn't it? this is where i am at right now. i've eat it daily for the past week but i realize that i can't continue this trend for fear of non-removable postpartum weight. i was thinking last night, "maybe if i have to make my own tortilla chips i'll eat fewer because i'm so lazy and won't want to make them all the time." so once i finish this bag i'm going to have to make my own if i want to eat them. and i'll make my own salsa, too. there's this amazing recipe for moroccan lentil salsa that is to die for - way healthier than the processed, store-bought crap i've been eating and more delicious, too!

overall, i just to keep it healthy and eat well so i don't stay fat forever after the baby. i don't deny myself anything unreasonable; i just try to keep it all in moderation. i made a chart yesterday of how much of which kinds of foods i need to eat each day and now i'm keeping track to make sure i get everything baby and i need. goal for the next week: keep the chips and salsa to a moderate level.
